I've been an artist my entire life but I never had the opportunity to show the world my passion to create until now. Growing up poor as a kid and never really having a place to call home, except for the times I lived with my Nana, I never really had my own clothes or anything. Bouncing from home to home, I always had to wear someone else clothes and shoes or just go without or would sometimes have the same clothes for years and being a husky kid comfort was always an issue.
The 90s was when I was finally able to get a few pieces for myself and that's when I fell in love with the bold and comfortable styling of urban designers like cross colours, FUBU, and Phat Farm. As I got older and due to my size comfort was always the culprit and I would always have to make the sacrifice of comfort versus style.
With Black UP you have the best of both worlds. Comfort, bold, funky fresh style - paying homage to the styles of yester year but looking to the future. I wanted to make sure that our designs were both tasteful and not overly simplistic. We want you to be noticed when you want to be noticed.
I knew one day I would design my own fresh gear and share it with the rest of the world. I do a lot of things and I want to be fresh and comfortable doing them but I also want to make a statement. I spent years trying to come up with something that would be eye catching and fun to wear. Made from quality materials Black UP draws inspiration from my people, our fashion, and our communities because black is beautiful and a way of life.
